One dead as earth caves in at under-construction cement plant

One construction worker was killed and two others injured when a mound of earth caved in while they were working at an under-construction cement plant in Durg district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.

"22-year-old Tapan Banjare was trapped under the debris when earth caved in the 40-feet-deep foundation unit of an under-construction cement plant in Nandini area of Bhilai region of the district," Bhilai ASP Prashant Thakur told PTI.

He said the injured were admitted to a private hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

A case was registered, Thakur said, adding that the plant management has announced to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of deceased.
