One dead, houses damaged by high velocity winds in Lanka

"Over 400 houses partly damaged while several people were injured" Lal Sarath Kumara, a spokesman for the national disaster management centre said.

Western, south, south western, central and eastern provinces were affected by high velocity winds.

Over 100 families or 400 people were marooned, Lal Sarath Kumara said.

Weather officials expected high wind conditions to continue over the next few days.
