One dead, two injured in accident on Mumbai-Nashik road

Two girls, who were on their way to the Mumbai international airport to greet their mother who was returning from Haj pilgrimage, were seriously injured while driver of the vehicle died after it hit a trailer on the Mumbai-Nashik highway in the district.

The accident took place yesterday morning, at around 8.30 pm, near Saket road junction as the Tata Sumo in which the victims were travelling ran into the trailer from behind.

Julekha Shaikh (15) and Hajira Shaikh (6), the two girls, were seriously injured. Their father Hajimiya Khalil Shaikh escaped unscathed, while Mehboob Ali Mohammed Ali Shaikh (32), the driver, died on the spot.
 

The trailer was laden with iron rods which pieced the front-side glass of Sumo, police said.

Police have registered a case of negligence against Mohd Ali Shaikh (28), driver of the trailer.
