Police today claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a 15-year-old girl after detaining her cousin.

The accused, reportedly a juvenile and related to the victim, was detained this morning, SP Simardeep Singh said.

The blood-stained body of the girl, a student of class X, was found at her house in Sector-3, urban estate HUDA last evening by her mother when she came back from Kaithal, police said.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime and disclosed that he went to the girl's residence on Friday afternoon as he knew that she would be alone in her house, the SP claimed.

He also knew that the girl's father, who is a teacher, would be at his place of duty and her mother in Kaithal to attend a death ceremony.

The boy had reportedly taken some photographs of the girl four years ago when she was not properly dressed. When their families came to know about it, he was reprimanded, Singh said.

A probe revealed that the assailant had a friendly entry into the house as signs of struggle were found only in one bedroom, police said.

The accused stabbed the girl multiple times, the SP said.

Though the accused has denied committing rape, things will become clear after we receive the autopsy report, he said, adding the girl's body has been handed over to her parents after post-mortem and a case under sections 302 and 376 of IPC has been registered against the juvenile.
