Police today seized fake currency notes of face value Rs five lakh and arrested one person in this connection in West Bengal's Malda district.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Madhughat area and arrested a person, identified as Shami-ul Sheikh, and seized fake currency notes of face value of Rs five lakh from him, SP Kalyan Mukherjee said.

The counterfeit notes were of the denomination of 500 and 1,000.

Fake currency notes are generally smuggled into Malda district from Bangladesh as it shares a long porous boundary with the neighbouring country. From Malda, the fake notes are send to different parts of the country.
