Security forces today seized a kilogram of gold and 5 kg of silver worth Rs 33 lakh along the Indo-Nepal border near Rupaidiha.

A patrol team of border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) intercepted the consignment when one person was moving suspiciously.

"The metal was recovered from him and it was found the consignment was being brought from Nepal. The person has been handed to Customs authorities," a senior security official said.

The Indo-Nepal border is not an approved entry point for trade of gold and silver.

"The value of gold is estimated at Rs 33 lakhs. Of late, due to domestic demand in India, Nepal has emerged as a preferred smuggling route for the golden metal," the official said.
