One held for running illegal computer centre, duping hundreds

A man has been arrested for running an illegal computer centre using the name of a well-known computer education company and duping several youngsters, police said today.

Last month a complaint was lodged at South Campus police station by RK Puram resident Vinay Kumar. He said in his complaint that he had taken admission for one year diploma course at a branch of a well-known computer education company at Satya Niketan and deposited Rs 40,000 for it.

After completing the course when Vinay sought his diploma from the accused Praveen Mehta running the centre, he was kept waiting on various excuses. Finally, the complainant contacted head office of the computer education company and found that the centre where he took admission was fake, said DCP (South) Prem Nath.
 

An FIR was registered at South Campus police station based on Vinay's complaint. During investigation, police found out Faridabad address of Mehta from where he was arrested,he said.

Incriminating materials including 3 fake certificates and computer and printer used for forging documents and certificates were recovered from him.

So far 13 more complainants have come forward leveling same allegations against Praveen. He is now learnt to have cheated more than about a hundred students of Rs 40 lakh, police said.

It was also revealed during interrogation that Praveen was running the centre through franchise system which was terminated in 2013. He had been illegally running the centre on the name of the computer education company afterwards, added the officer.
