One person was arrested on the charge of trying to kidnap a woman in Chetla area in the southern part of the city, police said today.
The incident happened on Sunday evening when Lalbabu Yadav, stated to be an anti-social, was trying to force a woman board a taxi in a busy market place of Shaktibagan locality.
However, local people caught hold of Yadav and handed him over to the police.
During interrogation, Yadav said that he assaulted a taxi driver in Bhowanipore area and fled with his taxi towards Rashbihari Avenue crossing, police said.
Yadav drank liquor the taxi and after spotting the woman, mother of a 10-year-old child, walking towards Chetla, he approached her to accompany him but the woman refused. Then Yadav held her hand and tried to abduct her, police said.
Yadav was learnt to have several pending cases against him lodged at various police stations in southern part of the city.
