One person was arrested after a video went viral in which two men were seen being tied to a tree upside down and beaten up in Kaimur district last week, police said today.

One of the four accused persons named in the FIR for public flogging of the two men on theft charge was arrested yesterday while the three others were absconding.

Raids were being carried out to nab the other accused, police said.

The incident took place in Sonbarsa village under Nauaon police station area last week when two men were charged with stealing five chairs and other items from a tent house set up for a wedding at a person's house.

The two were tied to a tree upside down and beaten up mercilessly by the person in whose house the tent house was set up and three others in full public view.

The incident was recorded by someone which went viral in social networking sites.

The 'punishment' meted out to the two men exceeded a decision of village elders at a panchayat meeting where it was decided to flog them five times with a stick by tying them upside down to a tree.

The victims were initially reluctant to report the matter to the people, but Nauaon police station in-charge Virendra Paswan was sent to the village to investigate by Acting Superintendent of Police Jagannath Reddy when he was shown the footage by mediapersons.
