The villagers had held two thieves inside a room at the village yesterday, sources said.
When the information reached the police, a team of policemen arrived at the village and tried to rescue them, sources said.
Villagers soon opposed the policemen and started to throw stones, sources said.
As the situation went beyond control, policemen shot two rounds to disperse the crowd, sources said.
One person was injured in the police action and the security forces later succeeded in securing the release of the thieves, they said.
