One jawaan succumbs to injury in IED attack in Manipur

One Assam Rifles jawaan succumbed to his injury while another continued to be in a critical condition after a powerful IED exploded in Manipur's interior Thoubal district today, official sources said.

Mahindra Singh, hailing from Uttakhand, who was critically hurt, succumbed to his injury at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here, they said.

The bomb exploded at around 10 am at Yairipok Heidroipok area during a search operation to detect movement of insurgents in interior Thoubal district of Manipur.

The postmortem will be performed later.

His colleague Furba Tamang of Arunachal Pradesh continues to be in a critical condition in the hospital.
 

Although no insurgent outfit has claimed responsibility for the incident the area is beleived to be dominated by the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and the Kanglei Yowoi Kann Lup (KYKL) cadres.
