One person was killed and four others injured following a dispute between two families, belonging to different communities, over drawing water from a local pond at Chitawad village here, police said today.
The trouble started when the families had an altercation over fetching water for irrigation late last night at the village, some 16 km from the district headquarters, police said.
"The dispute turned violent when the people belonging to one family burnt the motor pumps (used to draw water) of another person resulting in a fight which left one person dead - and four others injured," Bilpank Police Station incharge Varun Tiwari, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place said.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the village due to tension, police said.
