One killed during clash on train in Meerut

One person was killed and half a dozen passengers injured in a clash due to a dispute over seats on board the Dehradun-Kochi Express at Meerut City Station, police said.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash said last night an argument broke out between one Jaswinder, a resident of Haridwar, and some other passengers near Kota in Rajasthan.

The dispute was sorted out by other passengers in the compartment. However, this morning two youths called their associates to Meerut City Station, who came there armed with sticks, he said.

The accused then attacked the other group and in the ensuing clash, half a dozen passengers were injured.
 

Those injured were admitted to a hospital. Naseer, a resident of Gagaglhedi in Saharanpur, later succumbed to his injuries. Three persons are still in the hospital, he said.

Jaswinder was also thrown pushed by the attackers from the train at the station and he sustained minor injuries, the SP said, adding, efforts are on to identify the accused using CCTV footage.
