A ruling Trinamool Congress worker was killed and five others were injured in a bomb explosion at a party office in the outskirts of Burdwan town today.

Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal confirmed the incident at Metal DVC area and said investigation into it has begun.

TMC Burdwan unit, general secretary, Debnarayan Guha alleged that a CPI-M worker Sk Jami-ul entered the party office and threw a bomb at the six before fleeing.

Under the impact of the explosion, the head of one of the TMC workers was torn off and he was killed. The others were injured by bomb splinters, Guha said adding four of them were admitted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and one to a nursing home.

Jami-ul, he claimed, would often abuse TMC openly and had been called to the party office a few days ago and cautioned.

Agarwal said the sub-divisional police officer and inspector in-charge have rushed to the spot to investigate.

State Small Scale Industries Minister and president of TMC Burdwan district (rural), Swapan Debnath alleged CPI-M goons had committed the crime.

When contacted CPI-M district committee member Ainal Haque said the party was not involved in the blast, and instead alleged that it was a result of "inner party clash of TMC."

"TMC is aiding and abetting violence in that area. We have no role," he claimed.
