A 50-year-old man was shot dead and four others injured in a scuffle between two groups allegedly over collecting firewood from a disputed property, police said today.

The incident took place at Ganeshipur village in Ghatampur area yesterday when the deceased, Ashwini Kumar, collected firewood from a property which was a source of dispute between him and his relative Rajkumar Tiwari (65).

Ashwini was holding a feast for neighbourhood girls and he collected firewood from the disputed property to use as cooking fuel. Rajkumar objected to it and an argument broke out between them, police said.

Meanwhile, Rajkumar's son Arvind called his brother Anoop who reached the spot along with six other men and attacked Ashwini, his brother Rambabu and Krishna Kumar during the feast, they said.

Arvind shot at Ashwini with his licensed gun during the scuffle, they added.

The victim was taken to Ursula hospital where doctors declared him dead while Anoop, Arvind, Rambabu and Krishna Kumar were injured in the scuffle, SP Crime Devesh Pandey said.

A case was filed against five people by Ashwini's brother Rajol and four of the accused, Sanjay Tiwari, Rajkumar and his sons Arvind and Anoop, have been arrested, he said.

One accused is still at large and further probe is underway, he added.
