A man was killed and a minor girl injured in firing by armed dacoits who looted cash and jewellary worth Rs 12 lakh from a household in a village in Bihar's Nalanda district, a police officer said today.

The incident took place in Geraur village late last night as about 25-30 armed robbers raided Sanjay Kumar's house and shot at and wounded his six year-old niece after the family members resisted robbery, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) N K Rajak said.

The robbers subsequently looted cash and jewellary worth Rs 12 lakh which the affected family had arranged for wedding of Kumar's another niece, he said.

The dacoits, on way to making good their escaped, fired indiscriminately in which Kumar's neighbour Mohi Yadav was killed on the spot, Rajak said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and the injured girl admitted to a hospital, the DSP said, adding that a case has been registered in this connection and raids were being carried out to nab the robbers.

The role of Maoists could not be ruled out behind robbery incident, Rajak said.
