One person was killed and 40 others were injured when a government transport bus capsized and plunged into a road side field at Poravacheri in the district today, police said.
The incident occurred this morning when the driver of the bus applied sudden brakes when the vehicle reached Poravacheri, and as a result it skidded and fell into a field, the passengers told the police.
On receiving information, fire and rescue service personnel and police reached the spot and rescued the trapped passengers, with the help of the locals, they said.
The injured had been admitted to the government hospital here.
