Protests in the aftermath of a road accident, in which a labourer was killed, took an ugly turn here today when a group of transporters allegedly opened fire on the agitators, leading to the death of another person.
Police said a labourer was run over by a truck, the driver of which subsequently took shelter at a steel mill in order to escape the ire of the protesters who came after him, forced their way into the mill and allegedly indulged in stone-pelting, causing damage to its property.
In the meantime, the owner of the truck arrived at the spot with his supporters and a heated exchange ensued between the two groups, police said.
