One killed, six injured in group clash

One person was killed and six others were injured in a clash between two groups over an alleged love affair between a dalit boy and a tribal girl at a village in Odisha's Nabarangpur district, police said today.

The clash took place at Kendugida village under Tentulikhunti police station last night when relatives of the girl allegedly attacked family members of the boy, leaving seven persons injured, police said.

The injured were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here and one of them, identified as Balli, died this morning, they said adding the condition of four of the injured persons was stated to be serious.
 

Superintendent of Police Brajesh Rai said adequate police force had been deployed in the village to maintain peace in the aftermath of the incident.

A Dalit boy was in love with a tribal girl of the village and both had eloped about a week ago which led to the anger of the girl's family who reported the matter to police. The police rescued the girl who is minor, they said.

Angry over the episode, some relatives of the girl attacked family members of the boy last night.

A senior police officer has been sent to the village to enquire into the matter said police is taking steps to ensure peace and harmony in the village.

The SP said the situation is under control.

SDPO (Headquarters) Udhav Naik said the girl was sent for medical examination after being rescued and her statement would also be recorded.
