One person was killed and six others were injured at Uluberia in Howrah district when the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided head on with another autorickshaw.
Police said the mishap took place when the two autorickshaws, carrying more than seven people each were racing each other and one of them hit another autorickshaw coming from the opposite side.
Under the impact of the collision one of the autorickshaws rolled down the road and fell into a wayside ditch.
A 60-year-old passenger was killed in the incident, the police said adding six others sustained minor injuries.
Locals blockaded the road in protest for sometime and withdrew after police intervention.
