About one lakh people participated in the Chithirai car festival of Sri Meenakshi temple here today, and offered "deepa harthi" and worship.
Both the two giant wooden cars of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, left the base at 6.30 am and were pulled through the four Masi streets by the devotees, officials said.
Tight security arrangements, including setting up of cameras at various places, had been made for the event.
The celestial wedding of the divine couple was held yesterday.
