One-man enquiry committee into Golaghat incident

The Assam Government has constituted a one-man committee to enquire into the Golaghat incident in the state on August 19 when one person died in a road accident while trying to escape police action during a protest.

The state government has appointed Additional Chief Secretary S C Das to enquire into the incident which resulted in the accidental death of one person in road accident during police action and injury to many others besides loss of public and private property, a government release said today.

The committee will ascertain facts and circumstances leading to the incident, besides ascertaining if any person(s) or organisation was responsible for it.
 

It will also determine if there were any lapses on the part of any authority, and if so, will fix responsibility thereof, the release said.

The Committee will also suggest measures so that such incidents do not occur in future besides probing into any other matter relevant to the subject matter of the enquiry.

The Committee will submit its report within 30 days from the date of issue of the notification yesterday, the release added.
