Allowing the Habeas Corpus petition filed by the convict's son yesterday, justices S Tamilvanan and S Manikumar directed the Superintendent of Cuddalore Prison, where the man is now lodged, to pass appropriate orders for releasing him on parole for a month from June 11.

During the parole, jail authorities should not provide escort to the detenu, but impose suitable conditions. The officials had also not objected as the public prosecutor said that there was no escort required for him.

The petitioner sought an order directing the respondents to grant a three-month parole on medical grounds for his father, who has been convicted for offences, including murder, by the District and Sessions Judge, Villupuram.

He submitted that the detenu was suffering from stroke and has to be given effective treatment in a private hospital.

The PP submitted that the convict was eligible for 30 days ordinary leave, following which the court granted him one month parole.
