A youth died here after complaining of extreme exhaustion while participating in a police recruitment test, taking the total number of casualties to three in the last 20 days.

Two youths had lost their lives last week during physical examination tests here.

Bhupinder Singh of village Kathura in Sonipat was rushed to local Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital late last evening after he fell unconscious during a long race in the police recruitment test.

After preliminary examination he was referred to PGIMER at Chandigarh, where he died during treatment, Chief Medical Officer Kurukshetra, Dr S K Nain said today.

He said Bhupinder had low blood pressure and was going through complete exhaustion when he was admitted at the hospital here at about 9 PM yesterday.

Though he was not having any other ailment, looking at his condition he was referred to PGI Chandigarh.

He said as many as 16 youths who were taking part in the ongoing police recruitment drive here were admitted to the hospital yesterday after complaining of extreme exhaustion.

They were discharged today morning.

Nain also said that so far 380 youths, who participated in the recruitment test, have been admitted to the temporary clinic established at the site of recruitment in HUDA Urban Area and the district hospital here, since the month-long recruitment was started on June 11 last.

He was of the opinion that many participants who were not physically fit are finding it difficult to cope with the test.

In reply to the question whether consumption of drugs by candidates could be the cause of three deaths, Nain maintained that "it is only a matter of presumption as it could only be confirmed with chemical analysis before the conduct of test."

On June 24, two youths fell unconscious while taking part in a police recruitment drive here and died in hospitals later.
