A 35-year-old man was arrested in south Delhi for allegedly possessing 72.5 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs 45 lakh in the international market, police said.

The accused, identified as Jahoor Khan, a resident of Farukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested following a tip-off on Thursday from Kalindi Kunj in Sarita Vihar while he was moving in a truck which was carrying the contraband. The vehicle has been impounded.

"On search of the truck, it was found that it was loaded with 800 packets of plastic granules and in between the packets, one big plastic bag containing contrabands was found there.

"The bag was opened and 12 well wrapped packets were found. Each packet was found containing 6 kg ganja. Total ganja which was recovered weighed around 72.5 Kg," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

Khan used to bring cannabis from Odisha and delivered it in Delhi to one Chaman Khan.

"Chaman used to supply cannabis to local drug peddlers in Delhi and NCR," Randhawa added.
