One person has been arrested with a large cache of arms and ammunition from a place near Kaliachak in Malda district, a police official said today.
Surgeon Sheikh was picked up from his home last midnight in Nowda-Jodupur area during a police raid following a tip-off, the official said.
Five rifles, a 9mm pistol, 60 bombs besides, bomb making material, 60 cartridges, magazines and sharp weapons were recovered from Sheikh's house, the official said.
Sheikh will be produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Malda today.
Sheikh is stated to be an associate of local Trinamool leader Bokul Sheikh who was expelled from the party for six years on sunday for anti-social activities.
Police has been on the look-out for Bokul Sheikh, the official said.
