A 45-year-old man was shot dead and another severely wounded when two unidentified persons opened fire on them from point blank range outside a bar in Mira Road here, district rural police said today.
PI Dhanaji Kshirsagar of Mira Road police station told PTI that the incident took place last night around 10 PM when victim Bunty Dhansingh Pradhan stepped out of Pushpak Bar at Mira Road after dinner along with one Sachin Manohar Vijaykar (32).
The duo was shot at by unknown assailants killing Pradhan on the spot who received bullet injuries on his head and stomach. While Vijayak was rushed to a local hospital, where he is being treated, police said.
A third person, accompanying the duo identified as Jamadhar Khan (30), however escaped unhurt.
The reason behind the killing is not known. A hunt has been launched for both the accused who fled the scene immediately after the incident.
An offence under IPC sections 302,307 r/w 34 and also sections 3, 25 of the Arms act has been registered against the accused, police said. Further investigations are underway.
