Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says women should not feel embarrassed about breast cancer and it should be treated like any other illness.

Breast cancer is a sensitive issue in the society, says the 74-year-old actor, who launched a mobile application, 'ABC of Breast Health' here yesterday.

The app provides information about the disease.

"Sometimes in society, it can become a sensitive issue, it can become a topic that can sometimes be embarrassing for women," Bachchan says.

"But I feel that one should not feel embarrassed or sensitive about a disease. We are all human beings. We are all susceptible to all kinds of illnesses," he says.

The mobile application has been by created and designed by Ushalaskhmi Breast Cancer Foundation.

Bachchan, who has been associated in the past with campaigns for various health issues like polio and tuberculosis, feels such apps are useful as the most important aspect about dealing with any disease is knowledge.

"Since I have been associated with various health campaigns, I have realised that people have very less knowledge about such diseases and are living with many misconceptions. This app will help commoners to gain a general awareness about breast cancer," he says.

"Having knowledge of the disease is the larger job. The people who suffer sometimes think that they don't need to consult and when they do consult, it becomes too late. Therefore timely intervention has been very beneficial," the actor says.
