One smuggler arrested, 24 bovines rescued in Ramban

A smuggler was arrested and 24 bovines were rescued from two separate places on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

On a specific information, police laid a trap on the highway at Chanderkote in Ramban district yesterday and intercepted a truck loaded with 11 bovines, which were illegally being carried to the Kashmir Valley.

The smuggler identified as Mohammad Rafiq was arrested and the truck with bovines was also impounded, they said.

In another incident, police intercepted a vehicle at Maitra Chowk in the same district and rescued 13 bovines, they said.

The smugglers- Mohammad Iqbal (driver of the truck) and Tariq Ahmed, however, fled from the spot, they said.
