One tonne of gelatine sticks seized from lorry, driver held

In a major haul of explosives, police today seized about one tonne of gelatine sticks from a lorry in the district and one person has been arrested in this connection.

Police said a team led by SI Abilash of Mukkam police station intercepted the vehicle with Tamil Nadu registration number near Mukkam around 9.30 am and seized the explosives packed in 45 boxes.

Each box contained 200 gelatine sticks.

The driver, Mathesh, hailing from Salem in Tamil Nadu was arrested under various sections of the Explosives Substances Act as he failed to furnish documents for transporting the explosives, they said.
