The 210 MW third unit started generating power since 2.17 AM and the other three units of 210 MW each would start functioning in a phased manner, MTP Chief Engineer M Madhu told PTI.
The entire capacity of 840 MW would be realised before May 31, he added.
Dealing a blow to the state already reeling under acute power shortages and load shedding, the four units were shut down on May 10 after a fire damaged the coal conveyor system killing an employee and injuring two others.
Nearly 400 engineers and other workers of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board had toiled to restore power generation and are on course to complete the work ahead of the expected one month timeframe.
The station had coal stock of more than two lakh tonnes, the Chief Engineer said.
