A group of NDFB militants swooped on a remote settlement inside Chandrasila reserve forest in Kokrajhar district around 9 PM yesterday and fired indiscriminately on the five households there, police said.

One woman was killed on the spot, while another was seriously injured in the Salbari area of the forest, sources said.

In another incident, 4km from Chandrasila around 9.30 PM yesterday, the extremists again fired randomly at Nalbari village injuring one person and his six-year-old daughter, they said.

The Ranjan Daimary faction of NDFB has been unleashing violence since Monday when a farmer identified as Ali Hussain was shot dead in Gossaigaon area of the district where fresh ethnic violence broke out on Saturday night after a lull of nearly three months.

Yesterday, the ultras gunned down tea planter Adilur Rahman, also owner of luxury Hotel Dynasty here, and also injured his Assam Tea Protection Force (ATPF) guard at Nagda under Sootea police station in Sonitpur district.

Meanwhile, police have launched search operations and rounded up two persons in this connection.

On Saturday two persons were killed -- one shot dead at Badugaon and a youth was hacked to death in a retaliatory attack at nearby Batlanmara village.

The fresh bout of violence came after a lull of nearly three months in the area which was rocked by clashes between Bodos and migrant Muslims leaving around 90 people dead and lakhs homeless during August-September this year.
