Considering the acute shortage of skilled technicians in the paper bag and paper cup manufacturing units, Dr N S K Community College, here is offering a one-year diploma course for imparting training in the field.

The college, started by Yenyeskay Machine Tools, manufacturers of the paper bag and paper cup making machines, in the first year of commencement of this professional diploma, from October 15, will waive the fees (Rs 24,000) for the first batch of the 25 students, its chairman,Dr N S Kumar, told reporters here.

However, students have to pay for the uniform and books, he said, adding the college decided to give free training in the first year, following the suggestion given by former president, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.

The diploma course, first of its kind, was a fall out of the demand from the buyers of the machines, particularly from North India and Foreign countries, as the market for paper bags and cups was growing significantly, considering environmental issues across the globe, Kumar said.
