ONGC beat BPCL 5-2 to enter semis of Murugappa hock tourney

Playing their last league match, ONGC defeated BPCL 5-2 after leading 2-0 at the break here.

In another Group-A match, Army XI fancied their chances of making the next grade when they beat Punjab National Bank 3-2. Army led 2-1 at half time.

Air India defeated All India Customs and Central Excise 5-2 in Group B.

Consolidating on their attack and defence, ONGC went ahead in the very first minute when Mandeep Antil converted a penalty corner and then increased the lead in the 20th minute following a field goal.

Drag-flicker Diwakar Ram scored twice in the 36th and 65th minute while Gagandeep Singh sent in a powerful drive-in in the 60th minute to seal the issue in his team's favour.

 

For BPCL, Pundalik Bellary and Jarnail Singh struck goals in the 20th and 69th minute respectively. BPCL finished their engagements with five points.

Earlier in the day, PNB opened the scoring through Lakhwinder Singh in the third minute. Army XI restored parity in the very next minute when captain Elizer Lakra converted a penalty corner.

Chittarajan Singh increased the lead for Army team in the 10th minute.

After the lemon break, PNB surprised the Armymen with a superb goal by captain Ajitesh Roy in the 41st minute.

As the time was ticking by, Army's Sunil Ekka converted a penalty corner in the 65th minute to put paid to PNB's hopes.

Later in the evening, Air India scored thrice in space of 12 minutes to take the game away from the reach of All India Customs and Central Excise.

Navin Kumar (20th) and Karan Baskaran (36th minute) tried to reduce the margin but Air India scored two more goals after the break through Somanna Pradhan (54th) and Joga Singh (59th) to earn full three points.
