ONGC now have on six points from 10 matches and are placed 13th. Sporting Clube de Goa are in a marginally better position with eight points from as many games.

ONGC next play Salgaocar in Goa next weekend, while Sporting Clube de Goa will take on Churchill Brothers in a local derby next Saturday.

It was a match of two halves. In the first half ONGC were quick on the counter attack and scored two early goals. Sporting Clube de Goa's Spanish coach Oscar Barreras revamped his team in the second half, with two clever substitutions.

Striker Richard Obiora and central defender Lourencio Joyner replaced Dawson Fernandez and Keita Boubcar respectively. The Goa dominated possession with clever short passing moves and peppered the OGC goal. However, brilliant goalkeeping by T P Rehnesh of ONGC helped his team salvage a point. Rehnesh, formerly of Chirag Kerala and playing his first match for ONGC, was deservedly the Man of the Match.

Playing in the 3-5-2 formation, ONGC forged ahead in the eighth minute.

Mizoram striker David Lairinmuama took a stiff shot which the Sporting Clube de Goa goalkeeper Agnelo Gomes parried and a lurking right midfielder C Kensitan tapped in. Six minutes later ONGC went further ahead when Liberian striker Eric P Brown's crisp shot from outside the box entered the net.

Midfielder Ogba Kalu scored for Sporting from the spot in the 69th minute. A subdued ONGC conceded again within the next two minutes. Following a long clearance from defence, striker Obiora headed down for Japanese recruit Seiya Sugistha to score past an advancing goalkeeper.
