Oil and gas major ONGC will sign an agreement with the Tripura government to establish a fertiliser manufacturing unit near Kumarghat in Unakoti district.

The MoU would be signed to set up natural gas fertiliser manufacturing factory early next month, state's Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury told reporters here.

"ONGC, state government and one interested company are all set to ink the MoU to materialise the long cherished dream of having a fertiliser manufacturing factory in Tripura," Chowdhury said.

The chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of ONGC Sudhir Basudeva is likely to visit the state either on April 8 or 9 next, official sources said, adding that "during the visit, the MoU could be signed to set up the fertiliser manufacturing factory near Kumarghat".

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had earlier asked ONGC to set up a fertiliser manufacturing company to ensure optimum utilisation of natural gas available in the state.
