Online car lease racket busted, 2 arrested

Beware of online advertisements offering attractive returns on leasing of cars.

City police have arrested two persons who allegedly cheated car owners after promising assured monthly payments for renting out their vehicles.

A hunt was on for another person, believed to be the mastermind behind the con act, a police release said today.

Acting on a complaint from one Srinivasan here that he had given his "Innova" car to a person who had placed an online advertisement assuring monthly rental, police launched investigations and zeroed in on 30-year-old Asupathi and Veeramani (23).

The two, involved in such frauds, were arrested and two cars valued of Rs 10 lakh seized from them, police said.
 

A special team has been formed to nab one Soundarapandian of Tirunelveli, who acted as "mastermind" in the case, the release said cautioning public not to believe such online advertisements.
