The Odisha government today decided to introduce an online examination for the students residing outside the state and the country to get Odia Certification Course.

"...Govenrment of Odisha has decided to facilitate Odia Certification Course on online basis for the benefit of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) globally and for students residing outside Odisha from 2017," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a statement.

The decision was taken after Patnaik approved a proposal by school and mass education department for learning mother tongue by the NROs.

Patnaik said the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, will conduct the lower Odia test. The curriculum of the state test will be equivalent to the Class-VII standard Odia.

"For this, the Odisha Society of America (OSA) and other organisations had made an appeal to me earlier," Patnaik said adding that this will benefit the second generation of Odia children living outside the countries and will carry forward the grand legacy of Odia language.

With the decision, NROs residing in other countries can take the examination online after 6-month course of Odia language.

They will appear in the examination that will carry total 70 marks - 30 marks for short answers, 10 for translation from English to Odia, 20 for translation from Odia to English and 20 marks for an essay.

Interested candidates residing in other states will have to pay Rs 1,500 as fees for the examination, while the fee has been fixed USD 100 for the students living in foreign countries. The examination will be conducted by the BSE, which will provide certificate to the successful candidates.
