Minister of State Piyush Goyal has said that there is only one Director Identification Number in his name dismissing reports that he was holding multiple DINs.

Referring to media reports in this regard, he said there is only one DIN in his name.

The central government did not ever allot a second DIN, Goyal said in a statement issued by the BJP.

Some persons acting unauthorisedly, electronically submitted DIN-1 Form on the portal of the Ministry upon which the system electronically generated a provisional DIN, he said.

Goyal is the Minister of State with independent charge of Power, Coal as well as New and Renewable Energy Ministries.

"The provisional DIN could only have a temporary validity and obviously lapsed shortly thereafter since no authorised application for allotment of DIN was ever submitted with the necessary documents and signature.

"... Since provisional DIN could be generated electronically even by an unauthorised person at that point in time, it does not hold any legal sanctity," the statement said.

Under the companies law, an individual is not permitted to have more than one DIN. These numbers are issued by the Corporate Affairs Ministry.

"... After some experience, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs having realised the fallacy in this electronic procedure has since upgraded the process to ensure that no third party can file an application and get a provisional DIN issued," the statement said.
