Ontario Premier Wynne visits DataWind facility at Amritsar

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne visited DataWind Innovations' manufacturing facility here today.

During her visit, the company launched two new netbooks priced at Rs 7,999 and Rs 5,999 each.

The netbooks of the low-cost handset maker, headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, will make debut in the market through retail distribution outlets all over India.

Following the product launch, Wynne said, "My mission to India is an ideal opportunity for us to share knowledge and expertise in key areas, including technology and education. Today's launch by Ontario-based DataWind is an example of the success an Ontario company can have when they go global."
 

She also said that DataWind's new initiative will provide affordable internet and tablets to rural areas and will have a positive impact on education in India.

President and CEO of DataWind Inc Suneet Singh Tuli, while thanking the Premier, said, "I and the entire team of DataWind are humbled by her presence as she has taken her time out to visit our Amritsar facility."

Earlier, Wynne also paid obeisance at the famous Golden Temple here this morning.
