"The Central government has sanctioned Rs.32.68 crore for implementation of master plan for face lift of the Park which includes providing better accommodation facilities, healthcare, conservation for animals," Director of Park Ajit Kumar Bhowmik said today.
The state's lone zoological park, 20 km from the state capital, is home to 547 animals of 51 species, of which 33 species are identified as rare and endangered animals.
"As we have got the sanction, now we are making the layout for the open-air enclosures. We would like to make the open enclosures upto the national standard so that the animals could live in healthier condition," he added.
As per the master plan, the number of species would go up from 51 to 83 within next ten years, he said.
Bhowmick said number of animal exchange programme was initiated with the other zoos or the zoological parks for matching of pairs and introducing new animals.
A female Sambar has got her partner on July 12, who came from Patna Zoological Park as part of exchange of one pair of clouded leopard cats.

Authorities have recently given nod for breeding of lions, Bhowmick said, adding there is only one pair of lions which is suffering from old age problem.
Another pair of lions will be brought from Sekkard Zoological Park in Gujarat in exchange of one pair of clouded leopard and then breeding of lions would start.
