Punjab vigilance bureau today asked its field officers to open suitable legal proceedings against any witnesses who turned hostile in court.
The orders in this regard were issued by the DGP and the Chief Director of Vigilance Bureau, Suresh Arora, at a state-level meeting with senior officers of the department, an official spokesman said here.
Arora directed officers to initiate appropriate legal action against a witness under Section 182 of CrPC if they turned hostile during a trial.

He urged his juniors to thoroughly go through court judgements and recommended stern action for inept handling of cases by officers leading to the acquittal of the accused.
Public complaints, vigilance enquires and cases under investigation, too, were discussed at the meeting with necessary directions having been issued to ensure speedy disposal of pending work, the spokesman added.
