Operations at Vedanta aluminium smelter hits due to pot outage

Vedanta Ltd today said operations at its aluminium smelter unit in Odisha has been affected due to outage earlier this week.

The 500kt plant-1 smelter at Jharsuguda had pot outage incident earlier this week. As many as 228 pots out of the total 608 were damaged and taken out of production. The impacted pots will require to be repaired over the next few months and put back into production, a company statement said here.

The outage affected operations at the unit, it said.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out earlier this week at the company's wholly-owned subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd (TSPL)'s plant in Punjab.
 

The fire took place at the coal handling plant at the 1,980 MW TSPL facility. It has resulted in a shutdown of all three units of the power plant for around 60 days. The plant had achieved full ramp up during FY17.

The operational teams are working towards rectification and expeditious restart of the affected units, the statement added.
