Police and security personnel have launched "intense" operations on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border to flush out NDFB(S) rebels for indulging in subversive activities.
Sonitpur Superintendent of Police Sanjukta Parasar told PTI that a strong force of army and police was combing the area for the extremists with round-the-clock patrolling.
The militants of the underground outfit have scattered in small groups and had gone into hiding and were using motorcycles for their movement after beating up eight small tea garden planters in Sonitpur on Saturday, she said.
Despite the police operations, armed rebels of the outfit beat up four vehicle owners for not acceding to the outfit's demand for money.
The militants armed with pistols and grenades yesterday attacked three private vehicle owners at Mainasiri in Urahiloga, about 45 km from here, while the fourth one was beaten up today at Jogibeel in the same area, the police said.
All the four victims are being treated at the local hospital.
The outfit was demanding Rs 5,000 from each vehicle owner, one of the victims said.
The outfit is reportedly using various tactics for their subversive activities ahead of Independence Day and Republic Day and this time they were attacking members of their own community.
