Police today destroyed opium

crop in a village in Bihar's Katihar district, according to a police officer.

Acting on information that some farmers were destroying opium crop on their own in Bholamari village, a police team rushed there and got the entire crop of contraband substance destroyed, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chatraneel Singh said.

During preliminary probe, it came to light that one Bhushan Mandal, hailing from neighbouring West Bengal's Malda district had plainted opium crop on two plots of 10 'katha' each and another plot of 20 'katha' belonging to Shashi Mandal and Bhola Mandal respectively, he said.
