The Congress-NCP government today faced an embarrassing situation in the Maharashtra assembly when the opposition parties demanded a poll for passing the supplementary demands of different departments.

There were less members on the treasury benches as compared to opposition when the demand for poll was made.

Presiding officer Sadashiv Patil adjourned the house twice, once for 15 minutes and later for ten minutes.

Opposition members criticised the chair for adjourning the house saying it was done to facilitate ruling members to come to the house.

Parliamentary affairs minister Harshvardhan Patil, meanwhile, assured the house that the concerns expressed by the opposition over non-allocation of funds for their constituencies would be looked into.

After the assurance, opposition gave up their demand for a poll.

The supplementary demands were made for forex, revenue, rural development and higher education departments among others.
