Oppn stages dharna in support of reservation for Dhangars

Opposition Congress and NCP members today staged a dharna on the stairs of Vidhan Bhavan to mark first anniversary of the agitation seeking reservation for Dhangar community.

Congress and NCP members dressed in the traditional yellow headgear (as worn by Dhangars) sat on the stairs of Vidhan Bhavan and raised slogans demanding that the chief minister implement his promise made to the community.

When the assembly convened for the day, the opposition members entered raising slogans.

NCP group leader Jayant Patil accused the government of playing with sentiments of the Dhangar community by falsely promising them reservation, to which Fadnavis attacked on the opposition, saying it was their government for the last 15 years and that they have done nothing in this direction during their regime.
 

"..But, BJP is committed to its promise that reservation will be given without hurting the Scheduled Tribe reservation quota. We are in the process of studying the issue so that there is no legal roadblock like the case of Maratha and Muslim reservation," Fadnavis said.

The opposition members then staged a walkout in protest.

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil in the assembly said the agitation for loan waiver for farmers will continue till the government bows to the pressure

Reservation to Dhangar community also was a poll promise made by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and he had assured assured a decision on the demand in the first cabinet meeting of his government if voted to power.
