The Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP members today staged a walkout in Maharashtra Legislative Council to protest the ruling parties' thanksgiving motion on Governor K Sankaranarayanan's 'Vote on Account' address to the joint-sitting of both the Houses.

Shiv Sena legislator Diwakar Raote, who raised the issue in the House, said that since the debate on the Governor's speech would not take place in the ongoing session, why was there a need to move the thanksgiving motion.

NCP legislator Hemant Takle had moved the thanks giving motion on the floor of the House.

"We are not going to debate on the Governor's speech in this session. It will be debated in the monsoon session of the Legislature. So, the motion be moved that time only," he said.

Other Sena and BJP legislators including Ramdas Kadam and Peasants and Workers Party leader Jayant Patil then came in support of Raote and staged a walkout.
