Opposition demands countermanding of ULD polls in 9 districts

Opposition BJP today met State Election Commissioner A K Tripathy and urged him to countermand Urban Local Body elections held in the second phase in Odisha since Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya was indicted by him.

Besides demanding countermanding of elections in nine districts, BJP and Congress held demonstrations at Baragarh demanding Acharya's resignation.

The opposition has demanded the resignation of Acharya who was indicted by the SEC for publicly saying on November 19 that the government would not release development funds if the people did not vote for the ruling BJD when the Model Code of conduct was in force.
 

Though the SEC found the minister guilty, he was allowed to go scot-free, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh of Congress, said.
