Haryana's Finance Minister Abhimanyu today alleged that opposition parties -- the INLD and the Congress -- were doing politics on the issue of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.
"Even today these parties are doing the same. Both the parties ruled Haryana from 2000 to 2014, but failed to bring water in this canal," the minister told reporters here.
He said that after the formation of the BJP government in 2014, concerted efforts were made to ensure that Haryana gets its due share of water.
He expressed hope that water would soon flow in this canal and asked the opposition parties to refrain from politicising the issue.
The minister, meanwhile, said that the BJP government in the state has been working in a fast mode to fulfil its promises of election manifesto.
In the 2019 state Assembly election, the party will go to people on the basis of these fulfilled promises, he said.

The Finance minister claimed that the opposition was not left with any issue to raise and now their entire politics was reduced to accusations and allegations.
On being asked if he was open to contesting the next elections for the Vidhan Sabha or the Lok Sabha, the Finance minister replied, "I am a soldier of the BJP and the decision regarding fixing responsibility of a solider lies with the high command. Whatever responsibility will be assigned to me, I will play my role to further strengthen the party."
To another question, he said that to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was not a major issue and the GST council would take decision in this regard at an appropriate time.
Notably, the opposition Congress has been demanding that petrol and diesel must be brought under the GST.
Regarding changes in the GST slabs, Abhimanyu said that 28 meetings of the GST council had so far been held to make this system better and changes were made as per the suggestions received from the people.
